Highspeed yacht crew requiring highspeed navigation training
The increase in yacht speed and performance has also meant an increase in the requirement for highspeed navigation training.
New highspeed (30kn+) vessels being produced have required a new set of skills from their crew. It has been noticed that officers and crew have struggled to keep up with demands on their bridge team management skills as they are traversing the oceans at highspeed. Training companies are now having to adapt their standard ECDIS and bridge courses to accomodate this new demand.
Bridge training has been especially useful as it has allowed a safe environment to push crew to their limits and throw a range of potential real life scenarios at them.
The future of yachting is speed as well as luxury, and the industry has to be pro-active in responding to necessity.
