ECDIS Ltd has produced a combination of three modules which essentially consists of revision and an objective assessment designed to assess the capabilities of individuals on vessels on the high seas in respect of their knowledge of The International Regulations for Preventing Collisions At Sea.
The three module package will provide the highest quality of instruction with practical discussion, lessons learnt from historical incidents, timed written ROR papers and high-integrity bridge simulation for the assessment phase. Customers are able to select which of the three modules they wish to complete.
Module 1 clarifies the meanings of the Rules and IALA buoyage system by putting them into simple easy to understand language and illustrating them with graphic diagrams and sound signals where appropriate.
Module 2 puts the classroom theory learnt during Module 1 into practice in the simulator and enables the candidate to take practice test questions on the COLREGs.
Module 3 is to ensure competence in the application of ROR at sea in accordance with The International Regulations for Preventing Collisions At Sea. The package consists of timed, written ROR tests and assessed simulator scenarios. The final assessment summaries can then be forwarded to parent companies (unless used for individual training/accreditation) for any action as required.
The package has been designed at a baseline level but the content, including but not limited to scenario construction and open discussion can be varied to better match individual customer requirements. Home study is required in preparation for this entire package.

Instructors and assessors are appropriately qualified in accordance with the requirements of STCW Regulation I/6. All of our trainers are experienced mariners that are highly experienced in the practical use of leadership, management, COLREGs and ECDIS having pushed themselves to their limits at sea.
All our instructors will be drawing on experiences gained at sea to highlight important factors and to demonstrate effective processes in the classroom then allowing for the processes to be developed in the Simulator. Candidates will at times be put under pressure within the controlled environment to utilise their newly developed skills and to show understanding and correct application of the COLREGs.
To have an understanding of basic watchkeeping principles.
There is no formal assessment for Modules 1 and 2, but delegate’s performance and understanding will be continuously assessed throughout the course.
Formal assessment will be conducted for candidates who attend Module 3. This is to assess them on their abilities to apply the rules at sea. The feedback from this assessment will give both parent companies and shipping insurance companies a system of quality assurance of the capabilities of those onboard vessels on the high seas.
